Stoney
is an AKC CHAMPION Now!!
Stoney
I took Stoney to Two Specialty Shows in Ohio on September 7th & 8th
and an All Breed show on September 9th. He picked
up 3 MAJORS and
13 points toward his Championship (An AKC Championship
requires 15 points and 2
Majors from at least 2 seperate judges) Stoney needs
1 single point to finish his Championship!!
Here he is the first day getting a 4 point major under
judge Neena Vancamp
He got Best of Winners
I have been showing Stoney strictly in the Bred-By Exhibitor Class.
Here he is getting his 5 point major under Susan St.
John Brown
He got Best of Winners and Best Bred-By in Specialty
Show.
At the All-Breed show the major broke in Wire Dogs
but that didn't stop
Stoney, he went Best Of Breed/Variety, Best Of Winners
over two specials
to get a 4 point major under June Penta.
I got LOTS of compliments on him!
Solo needs 4 single points to
finish his Championship.
This is Solo, I took him to the Specialty shows in
September. It
was his FIRST shows and I didn't expect
him to do much since he is still a puppy and
needs to mature.
Solo took a 4 point major.
I am Sooooo proud of him, he was shown in the Bred-By
Exhibitor class
CH Romandachs Son Of The
Wave MWP
Dylan gets an "Award of Merit" at the Alabama Dachshund
Club specialty, a
show for DCA (Dachshund Club of America) 2006 in Pine
Mountain, GA.
MANT Thanks to my BEST Friend, Mentor, co-breeder
of the litter
and Dylan's handler, Sherry Whitt.
I am SOOOO Proud of him!!!
Of course MANY Thanks to breeder judge Ann Harrison
for taking note of and awarding
the AOM, based on what she saw in Dylan.
Dylan takes a Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Variety
at the Columbus, IN
Dachshund Specialty under Canadian Breeder/Judge Guy
Jeavons, then he went on to take
Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Specialty Show!! Excellently
handled by co-breeder
Sherry Whitt. I can't THANK her enough!
Sherry owns Dylan's sire CH Duchwood's
A First For Me MS, Crosby.
She bought him, showed him, campaigned him and then
selectively chose
dams that she felt would further promote him in the
Dachshund world.
She has gotten NOTHING but Grief from Crosby's breeder.
Sherry was
put down heavily and openly on internet forums for
doing this breeding, yet this breeding
and the Champions finished out of this breeding made
Crosby a #3 Top Producer
for 2004. There were 5 puppies in the litter and 4
that went on to get their
Championships all of which were Owner/Breeder or Owner
Handled.
Sadly, Dylan at 4.5 yrs of age
is completely blind from a hereditary disease
afflicting dachshunds, which
is PRA. Progressive Retinal Atrophy is a Simple Recessive
disorder of which Dachshunds
do not have a DNA marker to identify the disease in
our breed. I am working with
Michigan State University in hopes of finding the markers
for PRA in Dachshunds. If we
can find the markers, we can, over time, irradicate the disease.
We need affected dogs to donate
blood samples and cheek swabs to Michigan State.
The more samples they have the
greater chance of finding the genes causing the problems.
If your Dachshund goes blind
or starts to have vision problems, take it to a Vet Opthamologist
qualified to do Eye CERF exams,
find out if it is PRA. If your dog has PRA, it will eventually
go blind, if it lives long enough.
Some hae late onset PRA, others have earlier onset PRA. Even
Dylan's PRA is considered late
onset, His Grandfather, Milo (Dominos Texas Livewire MW) has
PRA as well. On April 1 2008,
he will be 9 yrs old and although he has some vision problems
which are hard to detect (I
only notice because I know he has considerable retinal degeneration
based on an ERG exam. Why Milo
continues to have vision at almost 9 yrs of age and
Dylan is completely blind at
4.5 yrs of age is currently unknown.
Update: 11/2009 Although Michigan State University has no idea WHY Dylan went
Blind, though SARDS was suggested, it is no longer believed that he suffers from the
Hereditary Disease of PRA. Dylan is NORMAL or "CLEAR" for the RPGRIP1 or
Cord1 Disease. I have done extensive inbreeding with Dylan to try to Produce PRA Affected Puppies,
not to mention the breeding and line breeding which had been done prior to
him going blind and before I knew he had vision problems. ALL of my dogs have had extensive
eye testing for the past 4 yrs, NONE have been diagnosed with PRA or have become Blind, even the inbred
Puppies we produced in which half should have been affected with PRA, had Dylan's disease been actual PRA.
Milo had also been diagnosed with PRA at the same time Dylan was diagnosed with PRA, there was NO DOUBT
that both Dylan and Milo had extensive retinal damage to their eyes, Yet Milo continued to see, even in a
Pitch Black room when his retinas were so deteriorated, Simon didn't know why he could still see. My dogs went
through yearly CERF Exams, given by Simon Peterson Jones at Michigan State, as well as, ERG Exams,
RetCam Exams (Pictures taken of the retinas of each dog). One puzzling aspect was that Milo retained
obvious Arterial Blood Flow to his retinas, though the vessels were smaller than normal, with PRA,
the death of the retina is caused by the death of Arterial Blood Flow to the Retinas. Thus again, Simon stated
he did not believe Milo had PRA based of the fact that he still had blood flow to his Retinas and obviously
still had vision at 10.5 yrs of age. Milo passed away last Sept, 01, 2011 at 11.5 yrs of age, with Vision.
Both Dylan and Milo had such extensive damage to their retinas that Simon stated there would be
NO WAY to know for sure what had caused their degeneration because, when the damage is that
extensive- regardless of the cause, Ophthalmologist will automatically diagnose PRA. When
doing the retCam exams, Simon noted that a few of my dogs had asymmetrical retinal
degeneration, which is definitely not associated with PRA, but some serious acute illness
that had damaged their retinas for unknown reasons. Based on the extensive testing, it is believed that
My dogs DO NOT suffer from PRA, thus, they do not have a Hereditary Disease of their eyes.
